Bio
Lamont Riley, also known as Pupe (Poo-P), was born on September 27th, 1975, in Seattle, Washington. Growing up, he experienced various neighborhoods throughout Seattle, from the Southend to the Central District, West Seattle to the Northend, and even spent some time at Ft. Lewis.
At 15 or 16, Lamont began his journey into the world of rap alongside his cousin Curt and a few childhood friends. Initially, it was just a casual activity, freestyling to pass the time and express the reality of their lives. Lamont didn't take it seriously initially, only seeing it as an art form and an outlet rather than a potential career. However, there was a turning point in his perspective.
One day, while riding up 105th with his cousin, Curt expressed his belief in Lamont's musical abilities. He saw potential in Lamont's talent and suggested that he could do something significant with his music. Although Lamont was content with his current lifestyle and hustling, the idea of pursuing music began to take root.
In 1998, Lamont encountered legal trouble that forced him to leave behind everything he held dear, including his family, friends, and music. During this critical period, he had time to reflect on his life's direction and make some important decisions. He found solace in his faith, got saved, and immersed himself in reading the Bible, gaining a new perspective on his life.
After serving a 13-month sentence, Lamont was released and found himself drawn back into the familiar rhythm of his former lifestyle. However, this time, something had changed. The freestyling that once came naturally to him had evolved into a deeper passion for writing and crafting rhymes. Encouraged by his cousin, he began putting his thoughts on paper, a challenging process as his mind raced faster than his hand could keep up. Lamont recalls carrying multiple folded pieces of paper in his pocket, each containing a few bars of his lyrics.
The chaotic life of constantly hustling and the weight of two previous strikes on his record started taking a toll on Lamont, leaving him increasingly paranoid. He realized it was time for a change and decided to step away from that lifestyle, focusing his energy on the gift he believed God had blessed him with – his music. Lamont recorded a few CDs, including "My Testimony All Jokes 2 Da Side" and "The Next Best Thang," which he shared only with a select few family members and close friends. Looking back, he recognizes that these recordings were an essential part of his training and development as an artist.
Now, after going through these transformative experiences, Lamont Riley is ready to showcase his talent to the world. His journey from a young freestyler to a dedicated writer and recording artist has shaped him into the artist he is today. With unwavering dedication and a renewed focus, Lamont is prepared to share his story and music with a broader audience.
